SUMMARY:Thriving Ministry Leadership: lessons from a duck\, an echidna and a tree (Tasmania - North)
DESCRIPTION:Andrew McDonough\, best known as the author and illustrator of the Lost Sheep books\, is coming to Tasmania! According to Andrew…“Jesus’ best command ever is ‘look at the birds’. It’s where to start if you’re following Jesus. Now\, if you’re in ministry leadership\, we recommend you pay attention to all of God’s creatures. If people drive you bonkers\, if you’re exhausted from helping everyone\, if your last sermon was described as ‘nice’ and if the phrase ‘fruitful ministry’ fills you with determination and despair then join the duck\, an echidna\, a caterpillar\, a tree\, Andrew McDonough and other new ministry friends in a workshop that will be fun and possibly of some value.”  \nFocused on those in ministry leadership\, such as ministers\, deacons\, pastors\, chaplains\, lay preachers\, church council members  and those with specific responsibility for children\, young people and families\, these sessions will be immensely inspiring\, encouraging and practical. Andrew will also highlight his latest book – Jesus was a refugee. Watch out for more information as it comes to hand or e-mail anthea.maynard@victas.uca.org.au. \n  \n\nCost: $10 \nDuration: 3 hours \nMorning Tea will be provided \n\nDownload the event flyer \nRegister online \n

SUMMARY:Reclaiming the Missional Heart of the Church with Rev Dr Samuel Wells
DESCRIPTION:At the heart of the Church lies a call to mission\, to engage with the world. Dr Wells affirms the world as part of the kingdom\, the sphere of\nthe Spirit’s work beyond the Church. With the introduction of the welfare state\, the Church retreated from social engagement and “by concentrating on personal faith and spirituality\, the churches denied themselves the lifeblood that social engagement had long given them” (For Good: The Church and the Future of Welfare). \nWhere: Centre for Theology & Ministry\, 29 College Cres\, Parkville \nCost: $80\, includes lunch\, morning and afternoon tea. \nSchool of Ministry with Rev Dr Samuel Wells\nSamuel Wells is a preacher\, writer and theologian. He has served as Church of England parish priest in England for over 20 years\, often in places of social disadvantage. Dr Wells spent seven years as Dean of Duke University Chapel in the US. He is currently priest at St Martin-in-the Fields\, London\, and visiting Professor of Christian Ethics at King’s College London. He has published 30 books\, including academic studies and textbooks in Christian ethics\, explorations of social mission\, liturgy and faith\, and four collections of sermons. \nHis most recent book is Incarnational Mission: Being with the World. \nDr Wells will help us to articulate a theological narrative about who we are as a missional church\, called to be with the world. \nThis will be a day of input from Dr Wells\, with a panel discussion and conversation about mission in your context. \nThe keynote address(es) will be recorded. \nRegister online \nDownload – Event flyer \nDownload – Aim and Schedule for the day
